Using a neutral background for strong colour accents is a reliable technique. The room below has a creamy white background for its sky blue and tangerine accents. If, for example, you need to keep your curtains and your background is likely to be grey, these may not be the ideal colours. But purple and teal could be equally striking. Or you could use the same technique for a more subtle effect. There are many other options. And you don't have to tie yourself to two colours, or to the same shades of the colours you choose. Notice how the yellow tulips in the picture make it just that bit more interesting. What colours make you happy?

Thanks Tina. I think that I really like Navy, do you think it will be too dark? I know that this is an amazing opportunity of getting creative and have fun, but I'm afraid of adding too many textures and colors.

I wish I can try a lot of stuff in my department without buying it haha.

Navy may be too dark for the room altogether if you're thinking of it for the walls. Although if I really liked it I would do it, but then I'm a little bit reckless. However, if you are thinking of navy against, say, pale grey walls, go for it. The great thing about navy is it seems to be two things: colour and neutral. So many other colours accent beautifully against it.

You'll need to keep your colors on the light side otherwise the small space will feel claustrophobic. Use navy as an accent color, not a full color swath on the wall or curtains.
