Clematis Cloudburst

last modified: 8 years ago

Hello everyone!

This Marczynski caltivar is a new addition for me... planted last fall, and finally the first bloom just popped up today.

My other type 3s all started blooming three weeks ago, and at that point I didn't even see this clem forming any flower buds yet. So it is noticeably late. Will watch when it will start next year...

@Lilyfinch -- remember you posted that you just had added this cultivar last fall? I am the one who replied to that post. How is yours doing?

It’s a beauty and looks great with the ?Romantica? In the background.

Thank you Babs. The plant itself is healthy and robust, a typical type 3 behavior I think, but starts blooming significantly later than the others. Maybe partly because it's a new plant, but I don't think I remember the same happened to my other clems after I planted them. I think I'll report when this one starts blooming next year.

Aghhhh I could have screeched with exxcitment when I saw this pop up on my phone. Beautiful!!!! I love it !!! Mine is new and itty bitty, I ended up going the cheap route and getting it from Michigan bulb (do not recommend!) I had it ordered from the other place but they never invoiced my paypal.. any way ..

yours looks fantastic!! How big is it for you now? I better go check on mine . :)

I think it's about 6+ ft now. It completely died back this last winter (because a new plant) and started from the ground early this spring with just two stems. Pinched a couple of times earlier, and after that I just let it go as it likes. Hopefully I'll see more shoots from the base next spring!

I've never bought from Michigan bulb... yikes. Good to know recommendations/non-recommendations from people I follow!

Hi Sherry, thanks so much for stopping by! Here's one more photo from today, where a few flowers are now completely open. It may be hard to tell from the photo, but the anthers are deep, almost black, purple (much the same color as Romantika's blooms).

p.s. I'm don't know why photos posted sometimes appear large and other times appear small. Either way they can be enlarged if clicked on it. Still, weird...
