So then it should not be a problem with the height that it is now?

I've never understood the idea of hanging a television over a fireplace. I get an ache in my neck just thinking about it. The height of the TV should be determined by comfort.

The fireplace isn’t in use. Its only decorative. Unfortunately it’s the best wall to accommodate the TV.

I sympathize because I’m going through the TV-fireplace thing right now. I have never ever wanted a TV over the fireplace and fear for my comfort. But it is literally the only place to put it in our open concept dining/living space - I tried so many mockups and nothing else is feasible. So we’re actually lowering the top of the fireplace and removing the decorative mantle to get it as low as possible. It won’t be perfect, but we’ll also set the couch far enough back that it will be very close. So my advice - get that sucker as low as you can!

I'd ditch the fake fireplace entirely, put the tv at eye height (eye height when you're in a seated position ), and have some decent cabinetry be the focal point of the wall.

I am not anti-TV over fireplace - not ideal but sometimes it really is the only place to put it. I have never got a crooked neck watching television over a fireplace but maybe this is due to my distance or my position (I like to recline so my whole body is tilted, not just my neck). But, you do want it as low as possible over that fireplace as they really should be mounted eye-level in an ideal world.
