Thanks Zalco, what color would you choose in the back painted glass?

Is there any speck of a color in your countertop, if not, what color makes you sigh?

I would choose very simple tiles close to the color of the cabinets or possibly the color of the side of the island. Back splashes don't need to make a statement, the rest of the kitchen already does that.

For the back painted backsplash - how about a silvery gray?

As Zalco pointed out, you already have a backsplash. Although I've seen tiled wall BS above those counter splashes that I think look fine, (unlike many posters who hate them without exception), in this kitchen, I wouldn't add anything else.

Definitely needs a backsplash. Something that will add some interest to the sea of neutral.

Love your kitchen, it’s similar to mine in style and color. I did backpainted glass in a silver metallic and it looks great. They also backpainted glass outlet covers for me. I’m really happy with my choice, it’s clean, simple and a breeze to clean!

Back splash provides to functions. To protect the wall behind the cooking space from greasy splatter and all cooking residue by providing a wipe-able surface for cleanup. The other thing it accomplishes (when done well) is to add a real pop or interest in what frequently becomes a bunch of plain surfaces. If this home were for sale on the market and a potential buyer was looking at it, they would think someone had forgotten to finish the kitchen if it was left without backsplash.

Whatever you decide on, I recommend removing the 4-inch black backsplash that's there now so the new backsplash will be clean, top to bottom.
