Flooring Dilemna

What I have: Southeast Texas area. Entryway and kitchen/breakfast area are lightish tan porcelain tile. Formal dining and office on either side of entryway are dark, red/brown engineered oak. Living room is light tan carpet and needs to be replaced. I'm torn between just replacing the carpet or going all out and replacing everything to match. Or maybe tearing up wood and carpet and putting the tile everywhere. Or tearing up tile and carpet and putting wood everywhere.

I'm not crazy about putting the tile everywhere due to looks and it being too hard on the feet. And while the wood is nice, it's a bit dark to go everywhere and I worry about durability and water in kitchen. We have a pool so also worry about water tracking in. And it would probably be at least $10-12k for the wood and that's keeping the wood floors I already have.

So I was actually thinking about putting a good quality LVP (20mil+ wear layer) everywhere, which I can do myself. But is it wrong to tear up porcelain tile and oak floor to put in LVP? We have a small dog and a couple cats - accidents are minimal. Plan on staying in house for several more years.

I am a fan of luxury vinyl wood (look) flooring.

Once it is installed it is difficult to tell that it is not real wood.

I also like the look of one material throughout the entire house. With the luxury vinyl you won't have to worry about water being tracked in.

There are lots of good products out there. Shop around for the look that you like.

We have had good luck specifying the Armstrong brand for our projects.

I'd never put that crap in my house (LVW), that's the kinda thing they'll find out in 40 years causes cancer or something equally bad. Go with natural materials wherever possible. Our wood floors are 150 years old and still holding up just great. You just need to take care of them and give em a tune up when the poly starts to wear and they'll outlive you. If the existing oak is too dark for you you can get them sanded and refinished. The raw oak floor look is gorgeous, like these

It's cheaper than you think to refinish them, definitely get some quotes on it.

I'm a huge fan of Karndean luxury vinyl wood look flooring and they offer a huge variety of colours and styles. It looks wonderful and feels great underfoot, and it's super easy to clean and animal-friendly.

Central Texas here. A lot of the newer $300k+ homes are putting LVP throughout the entire home, to include the bathrooms. We've even pulled out flooring in homes in the Dominion ($2M+ homes here) and replaced with LVP. A lot of people are switching due to the ease of care and maintenance. I would recommend a floating product that has a pad or cork underlayment attached to the planks vs a glue down. These products will be moisture proof and kid/pet friendly.
