Carol, this year more than ever I think that we are getting all sort of bugs to bite us, there are some people more prone to bites than others.

Interesting what you said about the carbon dioxide, I have not tried that...

I'm still laughing about it... I can just hear the neighbors now... "We found Carol passed out in the back yard... the hose was still running..."

They are also attracted to dark colors so wear light color...and as proof of that: i usually wear black capri leggings...when i go out in the yard they always land on the leggings first.

Silvia, in all my years of gardening, this is the first time I have seen deer flies/horse flies/yellow flies (whatever they are) in my yard. Boy, they really get your attention.

Hi Bea, I agree, the biting bugs are baaaad. The St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store at Jax Beach sells clothing that even they couldn't sell - the old stuff they have had for six months or more - on their outside racks for $1 each. I buy scrub pants and long-sleeve 100% cotton or linen shirts and wear them for all of my outside yard and gardening work. It know that it sounds like it would be extremely hot but I have become used to it and wear them every time I'm in the yard. It helps tremendously against gnats and midges (no-see-ums) as well as sun exposure. However, the yellow flies will sting me right through a shirt!

Carol, I was in South Beach in Miami over the weekend and I hate to tell you that I saw no biting insects there, not in the day or the night. And we walked for hours there, if I did the same here I would end up with a lot of bites especially at night. All the restaurants were packed and lively and people were eating outdoors. But, there was magic in the breeze from the sea! lol Believe or not it was also cooler!

Silvia, that sounds like heaven. Glad you had great weather for evenings out. South Beach is a fun and semi-crazy place. Where you out and about after midnight?

Carol, we had a lot of fun! And I don't remember till what time we were out because after many mojitos I lost track....It is for sure a crazy and wild place to be and so crowded! you get to see many things including we spotted a few celebrities, one of them in a fancy car and after he noticed we recognized him, he waved and smiled at us...
