Feedback on 44" vanity design

Hello,

Does anybody have feedback on this 44 inch vanity? (I know the drawing shows it at 42 inches, but it will really be 44 inches.) The vanity will be going in our downstairs bathroom. This bathroom is heavily used. Kids use it for sunscreen and doing whatever they forgot to do upstairs, overnight guests use it (there is a shower), dogs are brushed and bathed down here, etc. Thus, I asked the cabinet maker to try and maximize storage. This design looks really busy to me, but I am not sure if there is a way to make it better.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Looks to crowd the toilet. As in, too wide. There also needs to be an extended stile to the left, against the wall. You are also going to pay a very hefty fee to the plumber to precision place your supplies and drains. There is a reason that most vanities have open cavities below.

Your lighting also is not going to work very well. You’ll get way too much wall bounce off of the left fixture, and it will be uneven. Not what anyone needs to put makeup on with. A single light over the mirror, and one in the fan light combo in the room will be the better choice.

@Pamal66. Thank you for those photos. I think it definitely looks better with one drawer underneath the sink cabinet than the two drawers at the bottom. Now that I see these photos, I think those drawers are what was really causing me concern, but I couldn't identify that before. Do you think it would look even better just to use cabinet doors under the sink and then have a drawer pull out at the bottom underneath the sink cabinet?

@Sophie. I agree about the lighting. This drawing was done by the cabinet maker. The plan is to have one light bar above the mirror and then a can and fan light combo where the vanity and toilet are and can in shower. This size vanity leaves 36" between the right hand edge of the vanity and the shower wall for the toilet. It is essentially the same space that was there before. (Although before the toilet was horribly off center in that space -- I can't imagine what the house builders were drinking at the time because mine is the house in our subdivision that had the toilet that far off center!) I will verify with the cabinet maker that he has left adequate filler on the left hand side.

Side by side comparison of the vanities with and without the bottom draw.

One thing about the separate drawer on the bottom, is that there is a separation between the plumbing and the contents of the drawer. A pullout shelf under the sink doesn't have that unless they incorporate a shelf above the pullout drawer.

I would consider a right-hand side sink in a 28" sink base and a 16" drawer stack. The interior dimensions on so many small drawers will be very limiting.

Previously, we had the set up with the sink on the right and the drawers on the left. We also had the countertop extending all the way across the back of the toilet, a mirror spanning the entire lingth of the wall behind the vanity and toilet, and a fluorescent lights in a soffit that spanned the entire wall. I agree that sink on right is the best use of space from a functional drawer perspective (and also from a functional countertop perspective.). The concern is that if we only put a mirror over the vanity and a light bar over that mirror, it will look odd having the sink off center. I noticed in both of the pictures mayflower posted, there is a mirror and a window balancing out the space. I definitely want a mirror that spans the entire vanity and not just the sink, so that two people can be in there putting on sunscreen at the same time and both of them can see the mirror.

Do you guys think it would be odd to have the mirror centered over the vanity, the light centered over the mirror, but the sink off center in the vanity?

Use the full mirror and a double-light fixture over the sink base and over the drawer base, creating two task zones.
