I have this area of what used to be lawn, but is now a bed of weeds growing from brick hard red clay soil. What I plan on doing, since the sod cutter broke within 5 minutes, is renting a tiller, breaking everything up (hopefully), covering the whole area with cardboard sheets and news paper, and then cover it with a thick layer of arborist chips. Any suggestions? See anything wrong? I know that tilling will improve the soil and therefore make it much easier for weeds to grow, but I am hoping the sheet mulching will solve that issue. Any help would be appreciated.
