This Adenium is a Somalense Nova ssp. Tanzania. Many of the plants that you see in these photo’s (not mine) are Wild Collected and the large bulbous base would have been under the ground.

There is another species which grows this base also.

See many coming up for sale on sites, but makes me question whether it is something that we should be taking?

Mine may never produce a base this size. Sundaram has been growing these and has had tips on trying to build a similar base on home grown seedlings.

Rick they are unbelievable i will show my next door neighbor ,we are in a friendly argument at this moment he recons my pots are to small i cannot convince him DR dont need large pots for there size.thanks this may help and i will be a winner winner chicken dinner :×)))))

Glad it’s a friendly disagreement. I find that many just think that the appearance of a larger plant in a smallish pot, just does not look right. When you think of these plants growing in the crevice of a rock formation and the roots grow down a fissure.

The Somalense nova ssp Tanzania’s large bulbous part would not be seen in the wild. It would be beneath the soil line.

All quite interesting.
