Kitchen remodel help

Cross posted with Kitchens:

I had a thread about two years ago where I got help with my kitchen layout. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/3259265/kitchen-layout-help#n=24

Buehl created a wonderful layout for us that we are planning on generally moving forward with.

Now that we have had time to save up money and are considering moving forward with the project I am back for more specific help.

We have a planned $50,000 budget for this project (hopefully it is enough).

Since two years ago we have added a pantry in the casual dining area as funkycamper recommended. The pantry is ikea cabinetry and I am hoping that the doors and panels can be changed out when we choose the rest of our cabinetry.

I would like to be able to raise the dropped ceiling at least 6 inches so that we can get a more traditional 8 feet ceiling height. Here is a picture from the family room. Would it look ok to take the vaulted ceiling into the kitchen? Is that way out of my price range?

Does anyone have feedback about either the design, my budget or great ideas we can incorporate. The kitchen is pretty small so we definitely need to maximize space.

Design wise we now have medium toned oak look vinyl plank floors so I am thinking we will go with painted cabinets to not clash with the flooring.

We have extra flooring put aside to refloor the kitchen when it is remodeled. I think i would like to do white cabinets with a blue range. I really love blue but feel the kitchen is too small for different colored cabinets. Don't even know if I could pull off the blue range. I am planning on hiring a kitchen designer (if I can find one, it doesn't seem that easy) but would like to have better ideas when I actually move forward with the project.

Thanks for any advise anyone has.

Joanna

Thank you so much. I am looking forward to moving on with this project but want to make sure I take the time to make the right choices.

Visited our first design store today. They are full service so not sure about that but they have kraftmaid vantage, merillat, and fieldstone cabinets. We set up an on site visit so we will see what comes from that. I don't know where these cabinet brands fall in terms of quality.

What level of cabinetry should I be looking for with a budget of $50,000 for this space. Should I be looking at an IKEA level, a kraftmaid level or more shiloh or fieldstone?

    Thanks,

So we are starting to get quotes on this project. Would it work to put all food storage including the refrigerator in the old casual dining area. This is one idea that was floated. Moving the door from the garage around the corner into the family room. Counter depth fridge and pantry on the left and pantry and microwave plus a counter on the right. It moves the fridge across the aisle but it seem like that is common in a U. We would still keep the island layout in the rest of the kitchen. It seems a lot more open this way and we already store all pantry food on that side. I just am wondering if this might work.

My kitchen designer is suggesting High Reflective White by SW. I don't see that color used a lot. My kitchen has windows on the east and west and except at sunrise and sunset it is a little dim if not using lights. Would this color still be too white or would it help brighten the spaces since the natural light is not too impressive?

I would NOT put the fridge in the casual dining area. It should be contained in the kitchen. I would consider using a microwave drawer, placing it in a lower cabinet near the dishwasher or in the island. Your plan, while compact, looks efficient. Good planning ahead on your part to save flooring for this area! Because your kitchen is on the small side I would go with all of the cabinets in the same color. White, if that is your choice. And a light countertop and backsplash to reflect the light. I like the lower ceiling in the kitchen area as it makes the space seem cozy. A lovely plan! If a blue stove is your bliss....go for it! I’d leave everything else neutral and just pick up the color in accessories like pot holders, kitchen towels, etc. Let it be the star! Good luck!

I just took another look at your ceiling. It is dropped only over the kitchen and raised to a normal height in the casual dining area. I would raise it to the height of the dining room, removing the dropped part that contains your current lights. That entire area should have the same ceiling height, if possible.
