IR remote compatible

Hello,
I love this night stand I have two questions.
1. is this IR remote compatible so that I don't have to have the shelf open when trying to change channels or using our Xbox? I really want a tv stand that can remain shut so everyone does not have to see all the consoles and cords inside.
2. is the grey on top light grey or darker grey we have a very light grey quartz counter top and it is difficult to tel from the swatch.
