Why do you have such huge pot lights I sure hope you are doing LED lighting in there but 4” pots are the biggest you should do 3” is my choice. Yes pendants over the island would be nice something simple with the same color metal would work .I would probably chosen the Nelson bubble lights in different shapes and sizes for all the lighting

Pendants over the island would fill in some of the shadows from the can lights. Make sure the pendants don't just throw light downward--they need to cast light both up an (especially) out.

The can lights must stay as they were proudly installed by my husband before I realized he was doing it. We have already gone around about it and I value him more then the size of my can lights so I am letting it go. We have run the wiring for lights over the island but wanted to have things finished to see if it would overwhelm the kitchen to add yet more lighting. If we did not do pendants then we will put two more can lights to take care the dark spots over the island. Trying to work with what I have.
