Since they're sheers -- not much in the way of light control or privacy -- and unless they're going to be hung with side drape panels, then, if they're totally plain, I fail to see the point in hanging them. For that reason I'd vote for the sheers with the pattern.

Better yet, use this opportunity to add some subtle color to the room. You could choose your sheers in a vary pale shade of your favorite color or even a white on white pattern.

Looked at your pics again and had an afterthought:

If you are in a geographic area that is very hot and sunny, and, therefore, maintining the cool gray modern look intentional (rather than just the beginning base of your decorating), then you might consider not hanging any fabric over the windows at all. Instead, if you want privacy or light control during the day without blocking the windows, you might consider adding a tinted film to any windows or patio doors that get full sun more than you might like. Home Depo has them for patio doors.

We don't think a pattern is a bad thing, however not having a pattern could be good thing if you are planning on adding more textures to the space.

Absolutely love a entire wall of sheers...this concept would be gorgeous in your room but it would need to go up to the ceiling and across the entire wall for that wow factor!..you would need adrapery track...
