I like the flat, saucer shaped feeders, with perches. Like this one from Perky Pet. Easy to monitor nectar levels and to clean and will accommodate several birds at one time and at a bit of distance so they are not so aggressive with each other.

I have received many different feeders as gifts over the years, including some very fancy and gorgeous blown glass ones. But they all leak or will only support one bird at a time or attract wasps so I go with the cheapo plastic discs that work best for me :-))

Agree. I'd be afraid the juice would ferment in the heat. I have seen hummingbirds eating or sipping watermelon though so you could try to put out a couple of slices and see if they come to those. Then you can easily toss them if they do not.

I also like the flat, saucer feeders like the hummzinger. They are so easy to fill and even easier to clean. At the end of the season, I put it in the dishwasher before I put it away. Easy peasy!

What about using the watermelon shell for a days bird bath?
