A lot of people prefer hardwood over carpet. Is the wood in bad repair? If you feel it is necessary to install carpeting, why not offer a carpet allowance for potential buyers?

We currently have carpet in the great room. I agree that hardwood would probably be the most desired choice, But considering our carpet really needs updating, at the very 'least' we'd like to carpet the bedrooms over giving an allowance. We want to make a good first impression (anything less, I think potential buyers would lower their offer substantially). Thanks for taking a min to comment!

You’re just asking if you should put carpet in the bedrooms correct? Not the whole house. I personally love the look of a patterened/shaped carpet in the master bedroom. Wanted to do it myself but was warned by MANY people that it can be difficult to vacuum due to the variable height. So I chose a really soft low pile nylon carpet instead. It is in a lighter shade then what I chose for the bedrooms/play rooms in the rest of the house. I hope that the lighter color makes it feel a little more special! The carpet will be installed next week and I am happy to take some pictures and let you know how it turned out.

Always get at least an 8 lb carpet pad. It helps the carpet to last longer and feels more luxurious. the problem with patterns is that you have to match up patterns at seams so it will be more expensive. If I were buying carpet to make my home more salable, I would get a medium-dark neutral color that doesn’t show dirt with a very nice pad. Good luck to you :)

Thank you both for the comments about the patterned carpet; I never really considered how the different heights could affect vacuuming, nor the extra carpet needed so that the pattern matches.
