Weird bedroom alcove

Looking for some help with an awkward alcove in our basement bedroom. This is the only wall the king bed will fit on comfortably, but this space behind one side of the bed is driving me nuts. I’ve thought shelves might be cool but I’m at a loss other than that. (I know we need new side tables and lamps) Can anyone help?

You could curtain the whole wall the hide the alcove.

You could have something built in to fill out the space, if there would be a way to get in and out of a storage cabinet. You could have book shelves above the height of the bed frame. Another thought--You could have a feature wall made for the entire wall, closing in the alcove, like this:

If you were to close it drywall it - maybe include wiring for sconces.

What space is behind the bumped out?

Buy or have someone create a table or just install a couple of shelves, even 3 or 4 across the opening, that fits the area floor space, that you can place a lamp at the offset/center of the bed, some books, a flashlight, extra pillows or blankets/set of sheets, and a basket of assorted courtesy items...and decorative boxes on top and bottom could store seasonal items for your home... The shelves could be painted the color of your walls or wood trim.....It's nice to put something like this digital item, in a guest room, too...You might not need 2 lamps and you might be able to place a chair to the left of the bed, in the place where a nightstand might be?

Have you thought of using wallpaper with a busy pattern so it give you an illusion that it’s all one wall

Could you drywall it over and open it up into the garage....always use more storage in the garage? I am thinking shelves or anything like that in the nook will look sort of out of place.

Or the area just needs 2 single beds, rather than a King Size bed? But I know you likely want to offer the King for company because you have one to spare..

The best option is to drywall it and make a straight wall. A busy wallpaper to give the illusion of a straight wall would take away from your head board.

I like the idea of curtains. You can buy material, which can be cheaper than curtains, and have more color and design options. If you google the DIY you'll find different ways, try whichever your more comfortable with. I used the option of stapling material to a strip of wood and then nailed this to the ceiling to create a wall in my bedroom.
