Carnosa is getting huge/Mathilde is blooming

I felt the need to show off my Carnosa :)

It's been only a year since I got the cuttings. Damn thing grows FAST!


I needed to get her a trellis since she started growing vertically, and then another level of trellis. And then wind her around it few times. There are probably three main vines that want to climb, and one lazy that hangs (it's on the other side of the pot).

And look at this huge leaf! It was originally on the cutting, and didn't it grow a lot? I did not know Carnosa can get such huge leaves.

And! There are at least three tiny penducles so I hope she'll stop with the insane growth and focus on blooming...

It's not the best photo, I know, but that's my phone for you =.= It's the second time Mathilde will bloom. First time she had only one penduncle producing blooms, but this time there are four that should bloom around the same time. And I spy fifth one, although it's still tiny.


Even the stubborn little finally grew three new leaves, after a year of doing nothing at all.

    Bright, indirect light (east or west window; a south facing window would work with a sheer curtain or blinds). Water when the top inch of soil dries out, adding a little fertilizer (I use tomato food) during active growth). Water less in winter, but you can keep it misted if the air is too dry. Otherwise, they like to make you wait. I've had mine for 10 years, and while she has set peduncles, they've either fallen off or dried up. Argh! But she's getting some new growth on her now, so I hope a peduncle appears soon.
