Karin, LOVE those VJS flowers! Your hostas are looking good!!! The colour of your English Sunrise reminds me of when I grew mine in more sun...then moved it. It is under dappled light now and has a Popsicle colour at the moment. Love this one.

In the convalescing ward, the ripply hosta on right, green w narrow margin...is that Wheee! By any chance?

Forgot...your BF is stunning! Wonderful growth! I haven't seen such a full one. Mine is doing fine but it is not as vigorous in its shadier spot. Looking to move it next spring...or this fall.

I have to check later when the light comes which hosta this is...but it is not Wheee!.

Yesterday I dug out Wheee! and Hanky Panky because of the heat and try conditions and I'm going to put them in pots again. This part of the bed is difficult to water, seems to be sandy below all the good soil I put on top and the poor things didn't get enough water and too much sun.

We had some clouds rolling in yesterday and distant thunder but no rain. The hosta are looking good, yes, that's true but you should see the trees and gardens in the neighbourhood...I already told stories about how neglected they are and now they are burned to the ground and the tree leaves are crumpled and rustling like in fall.

English Sunrise is one with a lot of sun, it is bleached but not burned. I made this bed with Halcyon and June family because they like sun and they did survive so far, and I will keep them in the ground there, the water is standing longer on the ground and they can drink.

Normally I would have presented lots of photos of my new ones, but this year it was often too hot to go out while the light was good and so I have to hope for next year...

Bridal Falls really surprised me with this bunch of new leaves. I thought that a host with so much white would suffer much more and I have hope that she will make this winter. My first one was not so good :-(

mbug, Sharp Dressed Man and Fire Opal are a good choice, I love both, they have very distinct markings...

I love those seedlings on the path! I never had them growing in the ground, maybee too much weeding :-) Your property is so big that you do not get around weeding that that makes nice seedlings :-) I only have those I put on the windowsill in February. They are still small and not so special, but I will see if I can get them over the winter...

Need to change the soil today, too much perlite for winter...a lot of work on the agenda for the maybe two hours I can stay outside until the next heatwave...

I saw a report tonight about fires in Portugal..the heat is so destructive..sorry that you didn't get any rain :-( I was in and out of the house today..it was hotter than it's been and I would go in for a "minute" and then stay half an hour..I'll try again tomorrow..I love the seedlings too..for a person that works at a slow pace to pull all of my weeds is hopeless..oh well..all of us do what we can..

Jo, here is the answer to your question about Wheee! The one on the stair for problem hosta is a division of Lakeside Hoola Hoop. I potted Wheee! and hope it has time enough to settle in the pot before winter. Gravity Rocks is one of the new hosta, I like the colour and the rippled leaves.

It is a tiny bit cooler today and so I could stay outside a little longer and do all the work on my list :-)

Karin, that is a Peace Lily... years ago it grew in a dark bedroom corner AND it flowered - barely any light.

The Gravity Rocks reminds me of an upright Ripple Effect. Cool.

We have similar woes, Karin. My Wheee! has been dug out a week ago, as was Aristocrat, and both are growing additional roots in water. It finally told me to get with it and either move it....or take better care of it. :(. I did not go out on those hot days either if I could help it. Rainbow's End had something chew a division right down at the base.. all the petioles lying on the ground. Lots of work waiting for me now....upside is that we have had rain - at least once a week or more and I finally had to mow the lawn, lol.

Lucky Dave to be the recipient of seeds of those beautiful VJS flowers! Here's hoping rain found its way to him and that it was plentiful. :-)

Love Gravity Rocks what a great plant. Your plants look wonderful--we have the same problem with a lack of rain--we've had a few storms but it gets very hot and remains dry.

I was so glad in spring that I had planted a lot in the side garden, but the hot summer showed that they are better off in pots. So I can put them in the shade if needed or put the pots in saucers for additional watering. Ma Nature had other plans :-)

Rainbow's End is one of the hosta that don't grow at all, next year I throw it out and buy a better one if it does not improve...

It is not bigger than Lakeside Elfin Fire and Snow Mouse!!!

The last piece of lawn fell for my Valley's corner, so no more mowing in the future :-)

I don't know what's up with RE but I also had troubles. I dug it up, divided into three, and replanted quickly in the front bed last year. It is much too hot there but I did it on purpose so the sun could invigorate the divisions. They came back nicely this spring! I have moved two of them (again) closer to the house where they only get sun from around 11:30. They are a bit crispy, understandably, but doing well nevertheless. The uglies are temporary and next year they will have settled in. I don't want to baby them too much ... but I think the third chunk will have to be moved closer to the house too. It's rather a small plant in my yard and similar to yours in size so I think it looks great with your minis!

It is very hot outside otherwise I'd take a couple of photos. Let me see if I took any recently....

Beautiful photos as always Karin! I'm curious about Sharp Dressed Man. I like the look of the wide green margins/narrow white centre on your plant. The plants I saw for sale had much wider white centres. Does the width of the margin change with maturity?

Funny how small the margins had been in 2017...It is one of my favourites. Maybe it was a division of a mature plant that I got in 2016 and it fell a little back due to the change of location and being divided.

Karin, It's so kind of you to post multiple yr. pictures of Sharp Dressed Man. 2017 showed a remarkable difference! I think the one I saw must have been mislabeled as the entire centre was white. SDM is back on my list of must haves.

This summer has been hot here for an extended period of time (and still continues). We have been receiving torrents of rain as of a few days ago. Everything is now thoroughly soaked. I wasn't enjoyed the watering of the garden. It's not my favorite part of gardening. I am waiting for the heat spell to be over so that I can repot many of my hostas.

Best to forget this summer and hope that something like this will not happen again soon. We had temperatures up to 38°C this week! No rain and the plants look awful now. Most seem to shut down for the season already.

Normally I enjoy to take my morning coffee in the garden, but this year I was occupied with watering before I go to work. In the evenings it was too hot to stay outside and so the garden was not the place it used to be.

Got a few sun loving plants this week, in case those summers go on and I have to rethink my garden plans :-)

I, too, am thinking about future garden plans. The repeated watering this year reduced my garden enjoyment. So this winter will be the time I will try to make some new plans for the garden and plants.

I love looking at the succulents but I don't think I could keep them alive in my shady yard..you're an adventurous gardener Karin!..some plants scare me...

Today it was around 25°C and I worked in the garden all day long...that's what I really love! But I saw a lot of signs that this summer will soon be over :-(
