If you write your tags with lead pencils, they won't fade away. Then the issue is plastic tags becoming brittle. No matter what plastic plant tags I purchased, they all crumbled under the hot sun within the year.

What I did was take a window blind I wasn't using, removed the cord and upper and lower supports, and saved the slats. Whenever I need tags, I measure and cut 3.5" segments to use as tags. They hold up much better than any tag I've purchased.

Metal tags are great but can get expensive when you have over 200 plants.

Prices have double and tripled in a month don't you love Amazon! Cheap. $10 for 50 up to 100 for $19. 500 now for $69. Might make my own they sell sheets cheaper at a craft store.

I’ve never tried but I’ve heard about garden markers, apparently they don’t fade, but I use pencils myself and I mark both pots and tags. I looked up metal tags before but I’m afraid they will get too hot and leave burn mark ona plant. Plus it’s very time consuming to engrave or imprint names on them. Or you just write on them?

Your right Elana. I would put them on with cover garden wire and let them hang.

I ordered some imprinted dog collar tags when they were on sale ... they should last. Used to use the zinc paw paw tags, but names fade. I always write on the front and the back of the tag ... sun fades the front but you can usually read the back. Lately have been using my labelmaker to put labels on the metal tags. They last a couple seasons.

Have you ever noticed that the part of the tag that is underground never fades? Some folks recommend burying a tag just below the surface. You can also add a regular above surface tag. Or you can just tuck a tag under the pot.

For the crafty and those who love to decorate their pots, painted and sealed stone markers are another option. Decoupage works, as well. The key is sealing your work with an acrylic sealer. You can wrap garden wire across the rock once and tuck under the soil to secure it down.

I primarily use the same method as Maria Elena. But, I use the metal tags for plumeria.
