I've never thought of doing that before, but I think it would work. Think about it: a deer prunes a pole bean vine to 6" tall (when it was near the top of the trellis), and you think it's done for. Well, days later I see new shoots coming out, and it catches up to the top of the trellis in no time, and is now blooming and setting on beans. Ask me how I know this LOL

Well, I went ahead and did it, I can't think why it wouldn't work, but we'll see. Would you believe I still have a few squash plants still alive? Yesterday I decided to cover up those gnarly, twisted "stalks" with some extra soil as there are actually a few small zuchs coming on one of the plants. I have seen that some people say they will make new roots, but have never tried it. There were lots of eggs on the leaves that had to be picked off and when I dumped the soil on, the adults scurried out and I was able to smash quite a few of them. Of course, impossible to get them all. I though maybe I'd throw down some Seven but we were expecting rain (which we didn't get). Rusted Garden has a new YouTube out where he's killing fungus with hydrogen peroxide in water and applying on the leaves of his tomatoes (he's getting lots of rain where he is). I wonder what hydrogen peroxide in the water would do to squash bugs? Hmmmmm. I kinda hesitate to try it during the day but an application at night might not hurt, the extra molecule of oxygen might be evaporated off by the time the morning sun heats up.

Yes, I've seen his videos using hydrogen peroxide as well. I ought to try it at some point. I bet the squash bugs would really BURN. Haha!

My squash plants are alive as well, though they got so destroyed by hail, I'm not sure if they will ever recover. That's my yellow squash and zucchini- my pumpkins have recovered quite well.
