I want to start . by saying I'm a terrible decision maker! Blame it on my mother. :)

We have a 12 x 11 master bath that hasn't been touched since our house was built in 1979. Ugh. Too ugly to show pictures.

My DH and I are in our early 60's and will probably stay in this house until..... til death do us part!

I have picked out the vanity. It's a dark navy. I need to choose my floor tile, shower tile, shower floor and then vanity top.

Here are some of my choices in no specific order: Navy cabinet, porcelain tile on the floor, subway tile in shower (possibly not the 3 x 6 but larger) and no choice yet of shower floor.

Choice 2: Carrara hex on floor and shower floor with navy cabinet.

Choice 3: The same subway tile and cabinet with a different porcelain.

I guess I have some fear about the marble and the upkeep.

Opinions please!

The shower is 3' x 5 feet. We'll also have a tub. Our fixtures will probably be champagne bronze.

Hmmm. The navy cabinet looks black in this photo. But it's a deep blue.

Yes the porcelain is practically bulletproof, so it is worth more. There are a lot of porcelain faux marble choices though, so you may find something you like that is not as expensive. As for the shower floor tile, where are you shopping?

I can give you some more examples from Wayfair of smaller porcelain hex tiles. You need a smaller tile to allow for the slope of the floor if you are having a traditional shower with a center drain. Having a tile with a contrasting color to the wall tile is best, especially when we are talking about aging in place. This one looks like it may have a good color match with the faux marble in the first picture.

A hex tile is classic and has less grout than a penny tile. Walkon 2-x-2 porcelain mosaic tile in gray.

If you prefer a more contemporary look, here it is in 2 in squares.

And a much nicer, and more expensive one in warm gray.

And they go on with black and more grays and some expensive color-body, unglazed, slip-resistant, tiles by Tesoro available in three different shades of gray. That color combo is pretty. If you are worried about marble upkeep, you should be able to find a similar hex flooring in porcelain instead of marble tile.

I haven't found any hex porcelain that I like. It's all too creamy looking. Suggestions?

I like either 1 or 2. Depends if you like lots of grout, which you’ll get if you go with the hex tiles.

I was in love with these faux stone hex tiles that make an MC Escher-type tumbling block pattern at Wayfair, but I had to have a small sized tile in my bathroom, so I could not have them: Elite tile Karra 7-x-8 porcelain field tile in white and gray.

Wayfair also has these 7 x 8" hex tiles in porcelain: Karra carrara 7" x 8" porcelain field tile in white and gray.

These are not all of what they have, so have a look.

I love the top option. Do yourself a favor and forget about marble.

Do you think the top option is worth an extra $4 a square ft? And I still need a shower floor tile if I'm not doing the marble.

Thanks for the responses! I agree about the marble. Sigh. It's just so pretty! So narrowing down the two choices of porcelain tile above, the one in picture#1 is $4 a sq ft more than the one pictured in #3. With a 110 sq ft, that's a big chunk of $$ to consider! The top one is made by Happy Floors and I can't seem to find a way to purchase them cheaper online.

I LOVE #2 also! But I'm scared of the upkeep. I need to hear from people who love their marble!

Nancyinmich, I've looked at all the local tile places for faux marbles. I found this one yesterday. I don't like it as much as picture#1 but it's way more affordable. I'm still considering the real marble too!

Home Depot sells a MSI faux Marble. I don't know if you will like it, or how many variations it will have in the pattern. It has 80 questions and answers, so someone may have covered that. At $1.98 a sq ft, it could not get much less expensive, though and is worth a look. MSI Carrara 12 x 24 porcelain tile
