Popcorn ceiling, remove or cover?

I have these two rooms with popcorn ceiling, built in 1992. I just don’t look up, but I don’t in general hate them as much as the general population seems to. But if I wanted to get rid of them, I am wondering if it wouldn’t be easier and cheaper (less labor intensive?) to pay someone to panel over it rather than scrape it off. Plus I love the look of a paneled ceiling. Is there a reason people scrape it off rather than covering it up? I’ll post my ceilings, and then samples of what I’m thinking in the comments.
