Wall decor with clock

last modified: 7 years ago

Hi all so I did this in the dining room and I love it but the clock was faulty.. I’m taking it back. Should I get the same 60cm one again? There’s also one that’s 80cm. Or something different?

Sorry...I would think about something else, including the lighted garland. Hard to suggest anything without seeing more/all of the room. Those clocks are somewhat dated now. So many other nice choices for art work.

Oh wow. I'm going to give a huge no on the lighted garland AND the wall clock. No, no , no. Gave three more no's after that.

Maybe something different with color? I'm not an expert, just imo

So sorry, but another no to the garlands and the clock. As mentioned, those clocks are seriously dated and weren't a great idea in the first place. A picture of your space would be very helpful.

Is the garland for some special occasion or would it be there all the time? I would not use it. I still like large clocks, but artwork would be nice there, too.

    No clock!

Who wants to have a nice relaxing dinner with a clock reminding them what time it is? Every. Second. Nobody, that's who.

Clock in the kitchen, microwave or stove. Clock in the bedroom, one for each of you. Optional clock in the master bath. That's it. You have reached the allowable limit for clocks in a house that can't be carried in your pocket or worn on your wrist.

    Case closed.

As for that garland...hmmmm...Clearly fake, so no. And it looks so like an Italian diner from the '80s.

    Nooo

Too early for Christmas lights, sorry.

I like the idea of twinkly dining lights, but not intermingled with the garland. maybe you can just have the lights on the wall to start. i agree with the others this isn't a great clock location, but if you like the style of the clock so what if it's dated? i like having a click near our entry area, perhaps you could try your entry instead

On its own the clock looks a little lost, just like many above me said...Also, NO to the fake greenery...But I like seeing the groupings of clocks, works very well if you have some cool ones (yes, you need more than one). Here are some pictures for inspiration:

Gee wizz so much hate toward the greenery and I didn’t even ask if I should change it. In fact I said I loved it! All I was asking was advice regarding the clock.

I will say this though, this is the only clock in the house. Literally no other room has a clock. We don’t even wear watches. It’s a central spot in our small house so we can see it from everywhere. Have had a clock on the same wall since we moved here 9 years ago.

We dont have an entry. Like I said it’s a small house (in Australia) so to Americans it is a TINY house. About 80 square feet. We walk straight into the living room.. and a few metres after that is the dining room where the clock is.

I did have artwork on the wall. Two citrus prints side by side one with black background one white. Large canvases. It was lovely but I wanted a change. I have toddlers and babies so can’t have real plants. Fake ones are it for now. Still don’t understand he hatred toward it though. Anyway was just after advice for the clock. I don’t normally post on here and it didn’t seem very helpful unfortunately.

When you ask for advice on this forum you often get more than you want. It is hard for us to not comment on other things that are just not right and clocks IMO on any wall where you entertain guests is just wrong. We are surrounded by time reminders without having to stare at them while enjoying a dinner. As for the greenery if you love it keep keeping in mind it does look like you forgot to take down the Christmas stuff as for the fairy lights truly they belong in a childs room or out side other than Christmas time but it is your home do what you love and don’t ask people if you don’t want the answer.

I don’t really entertain guests as the place is small and we are a big family, and also I’m not Christian so I don’t celebrate Christmas (funny how you and others assumed I was).

I think youre right this obviously isn’t the place for me. I thought it was way more laid back and helpful :/ I find decorating fun, and I love sharing ideas, that’s why I’m on here. But really all that’s happening is everyone’s telling me I have bad taste and to change the whole lot (perhaps Americanise it instead?). Whatevs you do you I’ll keep my 80s Italian diner. Love pizza anyway.

OP it's true that you only were asking about the clock yet got so much more than you bargained for! Part of the misunderstandings on this forum, I think, stem from not always knowing or realizing what style/designs the OP likes, so queries are answered often from the perspective of what's currently stylish.

If functionally this is the best place for your clock, and you want to keep the garland and lights, then I think the challenge to all the advice-givers is for finding a best way to make it all work while keeping the elements you love.

I really liked the inspiration photo above that shows collection of cuckoo clocks and the adorable animal figurines.

Go with the bigger clock this time around, and maybe stencil decorative borders or patterns on the wall too with a vine motif. It could become a very artistic space with a "nature/hidden grotto" voice. Turn it into a woodsy/rustic-looking wall. Maybe you could hide little birds on the clock and in the vine garland to make it more fun! You could put up photos of your kids with the various animals they find in nature--my oldest son was really into that when he was little, always wanting to bring wildlife home (just like me when I was a kid). With modern technology it was easy to snap a photo of whatever he found and print a pic for his photo album, then we'd look through the album and remember the various creatures he's found. Now he's 13 and outgrown that but it was fun when he was younger!

Don't think there's any need to continue commenting on this thread. De Niz is keeping the garland, lights and a clock. It is only a question of the size of the clock. Any other advice, no matter how well intentioned, seems redundant here.

As I was a main offender, I want to apologize sincerely, De Niz, if you are still present to read this, if not, then to everyone else. Much food for thought. I welcome advice on every aspect of a room if I post a picture, but that does not mean that everyone else does or even should by any stretch of the imagination. I will try to do better in the future.
