Carved bali cabinet sounds beautiful. What stands out most to me in this photo as far as complementing the desk is concerned, is letting it be the dark accent piece -- The white, slip covered char is a bright, soft contrast. I'd accessorize with a lighter and more traditional lamp base as well.
