I would like to see the actual piece of art .

We quite often encounter this issue and have found that re-matting and reframing into a larger piece works wonders. If you have a local frame shop they should be able to assist you in adding a larger mat and frame. Another options is to hang a larger empty frame around the already framed piece thus giving it the appearance of being bigger than it actually is.

Can you get more prints by the artist? Or get more prints on the subject? Check allposter.com for that artist's name.

I really don't want lamps on each side of the picture....what about mirrors? Would that work?

I don't believe in going out and buying a "new piece of art" to put over an area. Everything in my house has a meaning...a print I bought in Spain, a picture of our local lighthouse, a print I purchased in Costa Rica........I really want to keep the print above the couch but would like a suggestion on how to make it look better. Thank you for the idea of framing the print with another frame...that might work. Any other suggestions other than replacement would be appreciated.

Can you add a couple more pictures? It would be helpful to see what other wall decor you already have in the room before making suggestions.

You could add two other items and center each of the three above a sofa cushion. Remember, not all wall art needs to be a painting or photograph or a print of either.

Ask yourself why you like this particular piece of art and what will enhance that feeling -- what, with this art, would evoke a memory and make you smile when you look at it.

Could you pull the couch out from the wall and put a sofa table behind it, and then a few tall items on each side of the painting? Vases, candlesticks, pottery pieces?

Could you find the print from the same artist in a larger size?

What about turning that into an eclectic gallery wall? Find some pieces in various textures and shapes, metals similar to your frame, and other objects that have meaning to you.

YAY! That's EXACTLY how a home should be. Good for you.

I'd just add a couple of prints to it--things that relate to it. I don't know that I'd put a wedding photo there, but other prints of that area, of mills of the same age, photos that you've taken on trips, etc.

You mentioned a collection of sentimental pieces, you seem to have a lot of space to play with then why not create a gallery with your travel treasures you could group pictures on one wall and hang a mirror on the opposite wall to create a mirror image so that your guests whom will be sitting can see these pictures in the mirror when looking up. The other idea wold be to just have a couple pictures on that wall or since you have a Winter scenery add 3 more pictures in order to have the 4 Seasons , if that isn't satisfactory just have the one and 2 small rectangular mirrors flanking the sides and place a couple bookcases on the sides of the sofa to create a cozy inclosure . Also replace your pillows according to the Season or go with plain fabric ,Tropical and snow don't mix well in décor I really love the painting though!

If you don't want to buy another piece of art, you will need to place more pieces on the wall in order to balance the piece that is already there. You can try three photos of the same theme if you have more from the same area.

The art piece is beautiful. To me it has a peaceful setting & calming colors. Those are the types of feelings I prefer in my bedroom.

I recently changed some of my paintings in my home to reflect the mood I hope to enjoy for each room. Example, bedroom, calm, relaxing cool colors in bedroom . Joyful paintings into the living room to spread greeting & joy. I put images that inspire me in my office/art studio. Interesting enough it has helped me relax more when I go in bedroom, smile more in living room, & been more productive in office. Just wish I figured this out sooner. lol.

If you change your mind about the art piece above the couch, or even if you need some other pieces to go with it where you hang it next, what about having some of your wedding pictures blown up and printed in black and white, esp some that show the bridge? It could make a really lovely combination.

This is the gallery wall in my living room. My husband painted the large picture of the girl as a birthday gift for me which makes this grouping very special to me. The top pictures on the left and right are also his work, as is the smalldrawing of my beloved dog, who is sadly no longer with us. The antelope horns are from a beloved great-uncle.
