Decor and couch comforter ideas

We just brought in a new couch and the room is currently a little messy but we plan on replacing the cover for the couch to a smaller one and I wanted to know what you all think would be the best pillows, comforter and decor for the fireplace with the white walls and carpet. We also have an end table near the couch hidden near the door which is kind of an odd spot. I know nothing about interior design so any nice help is appreciated :) We enjoy rustic, beach, bold bright colors, and bohemian styles especially but not sure what is best for this spot.

Note: We prefer to cover the couch since we have 2 cats and we want to keep the furniture scratch free. The current comforter is kinda ugly since it's temporary and the old one from the bigger couch we had before.

Since you’ll be covering the couch, don’t bother with pillows. Find a neutral cover. And sorry, but from what the picture shows, you have way too much stuff in the room. Use only things you love. Move, reuse, donate the others. Then post more pics with room dimensions.

Katie, those windows look nice! You might check various websites that make slip covers for sofa protection from the cats. I know surefit.com might be one. The fireplace needs some editing to simplify things. Too much stuff on the mantel and hearth just looks chaotic. You never want to line items across a mantel. I know you mentioned cleaning up a bit. We can wait. :-)

We have these on our couches and I love them! Protects from cat and dog hair. Take them off when company comes.
