It looks like you jumped in and committed to painting! I hope you are prepping the wood properly or that new paint is just going to chip and peel off. Good chance that stuff you place on it will stick to the paint too. Preparation is the main part.

I would try some of the colors found in your drapes.

I don't like that last green, whatever it is. looks like baby poo. Oakmoss is ok, but it prob wouldn't be my first choice. of course, I can't really say because I have no idea what the rest of the room looks like.

look at these an how updated they look.

Look for a paint that is similar to Farrow & Ball’s “Lichen”. It’s a better green than any of theses and it “plays well” with stained wood.

Depending on the rest of the room, I would prefer either the white or a navy.

What does the rest of the room look like? Do you have white crown molding? What is the reason you want to paint them? Is it because you need more color? Are you planning to keep the same items on the shelves after you paint? Here's my take..

white built-ins are classic and if you ever decide to sell your home, you might be asked to repaint them.

Green is a very difficult color to get right.

If you paint it, you should find items to display that will look great with the green you choose.

I would say no to all the greens SW picked out!!

Thanks for the input. The built-ins have been painted white for many years. They are in such a high-traffic spot that they have taken a lot of abuse. It was due for a fresh coat of paint so I thought I'd try something different. I was thinking I'd stain the counter and leave the rest white until the Sherwin Williams consultant suggested adding the color.

Based on some of the pics and advice, I think we are going to look into sanding and staining the main ledge that everything gets set on and then possibly just painting the backs of the shelves.

the builtin colors to me look very 1970's.

Have you considered updating with glass doors and new hardware? I'm sure a local carpenter would be able to update your built in with added crown and doors.
