It is too high for TV above the FP. I would move TV with media stand from left side of FP, where is chair now, so sectional faces the TV. Get a wall art above the mantle.

ok, first i have to ask what is with the side light "windows in the living room, and second why is come trim painted white and others not?

as to decor, NO NO NO way should that tv go over the fireplace, SCALE SCALE SCALE

mount the TV to the left side of the fireplace wall, then add two low bookcases or credenza to either side. Remove the mirror above the fireplace, replace with art. move the family photos to the right side of the fireplace, and place them much lower.

post a picture of the FP wall straight on and people will do mach ups for you.

I agree with celergirl, move the console and the TV to the other side of the fireplace.

I would change the coffee table to one with color, perhaps a print covered ottoman, or a dark wood. Add some colorful art pieces to the walls. Check out allposters.com for a good selection.

Matching consoles, one on each side of the fireplace with TV over the one on the left. The mirror over the mantel is too wide and doesn't reflect anything anyway. Use art instead. Use your family photos on the right hand console as part of a vignette.

You need a new, taller coffee table with more heft that can hold its own with that sectional.

RL Relocation- Thank you for the comments! The side light windows actually go in to our sunroom and we’re there when we moved in. We have French doors in to that room but after the got closed on a friends’ kids fingers we unfortunately had to take them off the hinges. In regards to the trim, in the family room it is all golden oak but the sun room and front foyer is white.

That does lead me to another question - should I paint all the golden oak trim white and the fireplace?

I would unify the baseboards and fireplace with the other white trim. Is your FP portable? If so, you might move it to the wall where you have the photos and center the TV/credenza where the FP is now. You could paint the current credenza in a darker shade of your wall color or in a color from a new area rug to slip under the sofa and separate it from the beige carpet. Make sure the rug is generous like the one below so your sofa sits on it. You might like a hassock for a coffee table too.

Grover and I agreed with the whole look, I think that is the best look. What is your style?

Oh and are you willing to paint the oak mantel?

RL - I am willing to paint the oak mantel and the oak trim. Color? And what color for the credenzas? Our walls are BM Sabre Gray.

I would say my style is transitional. I like clean lines and classic colors, (mostly blues, gray, some greens, cream, white) but like to throw in pieces that are unique.

look for tv consoles they will be the right height. let me take a look at color options.

I also feel like I need more seating but am afraid it would be too crowded. Thoughts?

Start with the project at hand, then add after the first goal is complete. People try to take on too much, finding the consoles you like and making that change is the place to start.

Don't place the tv over the fireplace. It will be too high for comfortable watching. Place it on or just above a console cabinet which is several inches wider than the tv.
Bring color into the room with a couple of upholstered chairs in a colorful print, perhaps an area rug, and art on the walls. The placement of the sectional separates the kitchen from the family room. You might need to move it forward a few inches to make sure you have a good passageway behind it.
Add lighting as needed and occasional tables to serve as places to place a plate or drink while sitting on the sectional.

I like the fireplace in the eclipse or maybe even slightly darker. I’m not sure about mirrored tv stand though strangely I really like the piece. Do you think it is too much for the space?

Mlecure, I'm kind of stabbing in the dark here because I don't know how wide your TV is or how large the spaces on either side of the fireplace. Give us those dimensions and we can make better suggestions.

Grover- the dimensions on either side of the fireplace is 75” from wall to the bottom edge of the fireplace. The tv is a 60” tv, 52” wide but the diagonal is 60”.

Do you think the fireplace would look good white?

We DO need to know the length from FP to wall on both sides, and the size of the TV.

@Grover I think lower consoles would be better so the TV tucks in more.... otherwise it might eat the fireplace.

you need long low consoles, what is the price range? I think the dark fireplace lends itself to the look of the room better. You can always paint it white, but it might look a little more traditional. The dark brings a bit more modern edge.

I'd be looking for consoles at least 60" long but no more than 70.

Use part of that budget to get the baseboards and trim to be all one color.

I am looking for cabinets between 70 - 75" wide with CLOSED STORAGE so you don't have a bunch of shelves to decorate, mainly because that will create a clutter-y wall. Here are a couple I found at Wayfair. Neither is expensive; the downside is you don't know exactly what you're getting till they arrive. The gray color could be totally off.

Perhaps you should explore having a local cabinet maker make you two wood boxes with doors that you could paint to match the fireplace.

I like the top one better than the bottom for sure. My sister-in-law found this which I really like but unfortunately it is brown. I know it has open shelving which you were recommending against due to clutter. Will our aud-vis components still work through a cupboard door? We have a cable box and DVD player.

That much open shelving wouldn't be too bad. But it's only 60" wide. I would go wider, try to totally fill the space.

Yes you do need more than 60, i forgot how big the TV was. 70” min would be best. Also I think that one is a bit tall.
