Looks like a luffa gourd/sponge

I agree with Robert that it looks more like a luffa than anything else. You can peel it, slice it and use it in stir fries while fairly young, if you wish, or let it dry, peel it and use it as a sponge. I think you slice off the ridges while peeling because they can be tough and chewy if you decide to use it as an edible. Sometimes it is called Chinese okra. When I grew bitter gourd (back in my days of trying to grow everything at least once), it looked somewhat like this. I don't remember if it had ridges, but it had tons of warts so I don't think this is bitter melon unless there also is a smooth, non-warted variety of bitter melon.

Well, I ended up slicing one open. Very tough ridges... stringy too. The inside was sort of spongy... and didn't appeal to me as food. I ended up cutting both up and adding them to the compost. To bad, they came to me kind of old and dry, or not big enough and dry enough to use as a sponge.
