the only problem i see.. is that you probably wont find young plants for sale in fall ...

and it would be impossible to find seed in my MI .... lol.. all the garden centers are moving to xmas goods ...

of course.. with the WWW you can find anything anytime ....

Ken, I'd never buy sweet alyssum from packs anyway, they grow too quickly/easily from seed (and usually superior to pack plants too imo).

Well, I had no idea they seeded so well. I've never had any grow from seed the following year that I know of. Do you all have volunteers or do you grow them from seed each season?

Well, this is a new one for me but apparently there are a number of sterile cultivars on the market.....which would certainly account for lack of any reseeding in some circumstances :-) But then the original plants could not have been grown from seed either.

My experience with it is once planted, it will always be a return visitor, as it reseeds freely enough to almost appear as a perennial.

All of mine have been from pots. That could be the problem. Next year I'll plant some from 6-acks in the ground. I doubt 6-pack plants are tissue cultured!

I doubt anyone would TC Sweet Alyssum, they may use sterile f1 hybrid seed though.

Quite possible you may have "weeded" the seedlings. Also possible that -- assuming you reused the soil -- that you may have buried the seeds. That would prevent germination.

Years ago, I used to buy white sweet alyssum and dwarf blue ageratum every spring at any garden center. The alyssum was about 4 inches and the ageratum was 6 inches. I just loved them. I haven't seen either in years. I think the name of the ageratum was "Blue MInk"?
