For clarification, BK, what you want to ask for is "eggcrate" or "light diffuser" as the plastic grid was/is used to diffuse (spread out) the light emitted by fluorescent tubes in the overhead fixtures.

Guy at work cut them with some kind of electric blade saw, I just marked them, lol Will take pictures tomorrow.

They are very brittle. I mark them for the size, take a file - and just break through by tapping between the vertical lines. Then use the rough side of the file to sand the edges, And then the hardest part comes - collecting all these little chips.

A fine blade jigsaw or a coping saw would likely be the best way to go.

I used electrical side-cutters, used for cutting heavy wire. I just positioned the side cutting edge where I wanted to cut and SNAP! It broke cleanly every time for me. It's best to try to cut up against a cross piece so you don't have little ends sticking out which would be sharper than the dickens.

(In case you're wondering why I have a pair of side-cutters laying around, my late husband was an electrical contractor. There were always extra hand tools around and I've found this particular tool to be useful for so many different things that it migrated into my own workbench, LOL.

@AC: Can't point fingers at anyone who finds somewhat novel uses for tools. I have a few pairs of forceps (like doctors or dentists would use) which I got from a grandfather who was neither a doctor nor dentist. I use the smaller forceps for removing debris from pots which contain cacti or other spiny plants. The large pair, I use when feediing my pet snakes. (No worries about getting bitten -- no danger there even if they should. Spooks them less and helps to prevent them from associating my hands with food items.)

All size forceps are good and useful! My friend Jay S. in Tampa is a fabulous AV and Gesneriad designer - and he uses long sturdy forceps when he puts his finishing touches on his creations.
