Proper lighting will give you a lighter kitchen. Do you have under cabinet lighting? I have wood cabinets with light quartz counters, cream subway tile backsplash and wood floor. It is a light space due to the lighting and light countertops/backsplash.

Consider replacing over the range microwave with a stainless vent hood - open up that space.

I like the green in the above photo should you choose to paint.

Should you decide not to paint, I have a wood kitchens idea book that might inspire as to different countertops and backsplash. I would resist too much gray or use green grays which work with warm woods while cool gray are just drab.

The kitchen is quite attractive as is. I think trying to do a few tweaks here & there can really help.

The 1st obvious issue is the lack of sunlight in the corner due to the porch roof. So, how to lighten it up?

Lightning & light colors to bounce light around. Usa daylight bulbs.

The kitchen is in the warm tones, so creams, whites, wood tones, etc. blend nicely. Be careful with grey. It will need to be neutral & less blue. Plus, the last thing this kitchen needs in dark surfaces.

I would not paint the perimeter cabinets. If you want to paint,

1st get lighting updated

2nd paint the walls a bright neutral color.

3rd, consider removing backsplash. can drywall patch sand, & paint. re-tiling can wait until everything else is to your liking.

4th possibly paint the island. can square off the posts if preferred a little more modern look.

That may be enough.

If not, at least you tried before doing a whole remodel.
