Is the accent tile "too much"?

I'm picking out tile for our master bath remodel and have gotten differing opinions on the blue "geode" accent tile. It will be the vanity backsplash tile as well as shower wall accent tile. The issue is that this is not our forever home -- we'll be selling within the next 5 years -- and I'm hearing the blue tile is too personalized. Thoughts? The wood is used in floors throughout the house as reference and the light brown striated tile will be the bathroom floor and wall tile. I included the brown version of the geode tile, perhaps that's a better option.

I voted for #2 because, IMO, it is the better choice for the other elements.

Too many elements. Throw one off the island. I’d suggest no glass. But certainly thst blue glass needs to go away, or be the only major statement that you use. As in you do all the shower walls with it.

I would not want to decorate around brown tile in a bathroom. Cream is better. And then a dated speckled quartz in a cool grayed tone. None of this works together.

5 years is a long time away. Who knows what will be trendy in that year so the best advise is to do the best job you can for the money.

Forget about getting 20 different elements and instead make sure you use the best quality products and installers. Also note that each tile will cost different amounts to have installed so make sure you discuss with installer. I would rather see a well done simple subway tile bathroom vs the daily problems on here when homeowners buy tiles that are above their installers abilities.

I have seen those glass tiles at Floor And Decor and they are eye catching but I would use a more simple white tile with it. White clean looking bathrooms will never go out of style.

    Too many different elements here.

It's like wearing an outfit with the top and bottom with different patterns and a scarf with yet another pattern and a vest too.

It's not only not tasteful, it is not restful, and the bathroom should give one a calm feeling.

    Skip the accent tile altogether.

If you are going to have a niche, use the wall tile in the niche.

The small round tiles for the shower floor are too dark.

Look for something that works with both the wall tile and the counter, but doesn't scream "Look at me!" or make one wonder if the floor is clean the way the black toilets of yesteryear did.

Yes, both options are too much.

That floor tile will become quite "bossy" when it covers the whole floor and the walls.

    Don’t like either. Too busy.

What color is the vanity and counters? How big is the bath? How open is the shower? I'm another vote for keeping it simple. The light floor tile is nice, but I don't care for the dark penny tile or accent tile. I do like a patterned floor if the rest of the bath is clean and simple.

NO accent tile waste of money

I like that blue accent tile, and the mid-tone wood flooring brings out the browns in a very nice way; however, I can't imagine it as an accent in the shower. I think if you're going to use this strong pattern, it needs to be the whole back wall of the shower. When you say vanity backsplash, if you mean the whole back wall of the vanity, good ... if you mean 4", no ... same as the shower, this tile demands a presence.

And while I think I'd like it, it is potentially problematic for resale.

I agree with the poster above who says that blue is perceived as a "neutral" for bathrooms, and I've read that blue bathrooms sell for more ... I don't think this is a neutral blue. I think neutral blue is a sweet little Carolina blue paired with white fixtures.

Would I do it? I don't know. For myself, I'd love it, but for your circumstances? Maybe. My parting thought: If you do it, do it right. Don't be sparing with this bold tile.

Have you seen the overscaled version of this tile?

In your case, I think I would remove a piece of jewelry. However when it comes to something like that geode tile, I would rather see a whole wall of it than a little strip.

These tiles are 30" x 60" and 5 feet x 10 feet. But the use of this demands a certain sort of house. If the other finishes in your house are typical, this is really too much.
