I like the middle plan. The 1st, pitch is too low. The 3rd is too high & seems to accentuate the garage area. The middle is just right. There's a connection between the 2 sides of the house with that one.

Hands down plan two! Also, you don't need the shutters on the lower level windows.

Architecturally, is it ok to have 2 different pitched roofs?

Without addressing the center of the home issue as well, none of the plans work well. The house is already severely lopsided from the last remuddle.

I’m not an expert, but yes I believe we all meant Plan B when stating #2. Sophie is right in that the focus seems to be the two ends of the home rather than the middle and entry where most of the “life” is, I presume? But I understand cost constraints and the desire to just do a little to make it more livable without going “whole-hog” on an architectural rebuild.

We don’t all have perfectly designed houses, including me. But hopefully, people look to improve their homes as they can to make them more attractive and functional.

I have to agree there is something missing in the middle but not sure if another roof pitch is what it needs.

This is a picture from a book I'm reading : ”Not So Big: Remodeling.”

If you have enough room on the side of the house to add a second two-car garage, have you thought about reorienting the existing garage so you enter from the left side of the house and adding the second garage behind that? Then maybe the original garage can be made to mimic the right side of the house (from the front) and the front view of your house won't be primarily of garage doors.

We can’t turn the garage...We really want to use the space behind the garage for a mud and laundry room...

Are you working with an architect? They should be able to give you some suggestions on how to lessen the garage-forward facade.

ETA: What about placing the mud-room and laundry between the new garage and the old? With the new garage facing to the side you could enter the mudroom from either the old or new garage. Just an idea.
