Repotting Bromilaid

last modified: 7 years ago

I'm experienced in container gardening, but new to Bromeliads. I received a few small 'Pink Star' (Cryptanthus) from my dad. They are in high peat commercial potting mix (probably MG) and have been it there for several years, so it has probably broken down and is as hard as concrete. I will be re-planting in either Al's Gritty Mix (1-1-1 pine bark - turface - grit) or more probably "Boon's Mix" bonsai soil (Lava - Pumice - Akadama with about 5% each of granite and charcoal) I already have all components for said soils and use GynaGro - Foliage Pro fertilizer.

As these are indoors and in 4" pots, can I repot now or wait till spring. Can/should I bare root or just pot up? What size pot?

Any other tips/tricks for Bromilead noob also appreciated!
