I probably should wait until spring too. Do you start pruning in April?

I start having sun early. Nice and warm in the house. The plants stay in my widow till May. Mine don't go into total dormancy. I want full activity in the plant before I prune. I pruned 4 weeks ago for more branching (hard). My older plants got lite prune for full flowers.

Hi Angela, In my opinion, the best time to prune is in Spring....once the Adeniums come out of dormancy and start active growth. (Pruning can also be done in Summer)

The risks with pruning at the end of the season is that your plants may only put out one new branch growth instead of two or more...meaning that you will need to re-prune again in Spring. Also if your plants are prone to tip rot during Winter, then at least you have some length to trim the rot, rather then having to trim your pruned plant shorter and shorter. :)

They often mention Father's Day as a target week for pruning/repotting. That's when the days start to get longer, and the plants know that and start their serious summer growth spurt (in the northern hemisphere)

I typically prune in spring after they begin to leaf out again.

I have pruned a few in fall as a test, and to eliminate pests that might be hiding away. I haven't seen much of a difference in overall performance of either plant. But, I let mine go dormant in winter except for late in the year acquired plants or seedlings.

Lonnie- when you say you let them go dormant, do you keep them in a dark room?

I have a shelf in the spare bedroom, so it's coolish compared to the rest of the house ... 60-65 degrees. Sometimes they lose their leaves ... water sparingly, and I mean sparingly. Once every two to three weeks ... but still you have some losses. And I Have lights set up for about 16 hours a day ...
