Submit an image of your fireplace and room, it's much easier to come up with ideas if we can see it and your style.

sorry , I thought I did . There are hardwood floors underneath the carpet that I will be tearing up bit just haven’t got into the house to do that yet I’m closing next week .

Ok I painted the wall white but there are loads of other ways to make that wall an accent, mainly as previously mentioned, put your TV there and some shelves. I have floating shelves for a more modern look and I gave you some drapes!

I have some examples of asymmetric fireplace walls in my idea book. Might give you some ideas. Also search on that term for pictures of different styles. You could probably make it look really cool without spending alot, using paint and hardware store shelves.

    Where can I see them

Disclaimer: I'm a dude that has no design degree or experience...just my thoughts :-).

Not a fan of placing TV's or other mix match focal points together. If your budget doesn't allow for moving the fire place I would paint the walls that meet the same color....and make that corner into a focal point of relaxation...perhaps a nice chair or chaise etc....

Place the TV on the opposite side etc....so your not cluttering the area to much and allowing them to breathe. I'm also a fan of white walls...white everything with art, textiles, furniture providing the color....that way you can switch up the place without having to alter the hardest parts i.e. walls...flooring etc. If you paint the fireplace the wood brings the color back etc...

    Hope that helps...

    Good luck...

Def painting the walls but not white , more of a very light grey is what Im thinking will go with the wood floors that are under the caroet

cool....keep in mind....white absorbs colors from the room and so...while you may want a gray calming color...if the room is small it will feel smaller..
white....allows your room to feel open when you want to...blinds and shades open..
    and cozy...and warm when not....

all a matter of opinion and thats the exciting part....congrats on your place...and worst case...if you dont like it....just repaint.... main thing is to take a shot and enjoy

it is in an awkward spot. If you have natural gas I would relocate it. The work would be the demolition of the brick and then you may have to frame in some shelving to cover up any cement work you cannot remove. a zero clearance gas fireplace in the centre would look really nice in that space. Something to save up for while doing the demo diy over time.

If you have to keep it there, then I would suggest that you put a very nice large occasional chair and ottoman beside it under the window to balance it and put a sectional in front of it to make it a sitting area on its own, then the other side of the ceiling beam, can be a different grouping of some kind. I would definitely keep the wall beside it and above it clean and not cluttered and would paint a nice white to open it up.
