But honestly, if you do a glam door, you're going to feel sad about the little window zone with shutters, and the basketball hoop. I think I'd keep it simple and put the energy into adding some color and invitation to the walkway to the front door.

I looked at Clopay and Overhead Doors when getting ready to purchase our new garage door. I was much more impressed with the options and appearance of the Clopay doors. We are very happy with our Canyon Ridge Ultra-Grain door by Clopay. I would suggest that you would check out Clopay's options and see if there is something that you like.

Guys, before you get your panties in a wad, this is the SIDE of the house, the "servant's entrance," as I like to call it, heheh, where I come in when I'm carrying something heavy. This is NOT my front door. And we have a young boy so, the basketball hoop on the side of the driveway stays. I'd post a picture of the front of the house, but I try not to do that on the internet; I love y'all but I do want to maintain some sense of privacy :) We love the look of the glass doors - but sadly, we don't live in California anymore. We could have never afforded 3,200 sq ft in California. I'm doing the best I can to avoid SAD in this frozen tundra by having a nice home here, at least... believe me, I'd move back to my 300 sq ft beach shack in la Jolla and leave all this house behind in a heartbeat if I weren't "tied down"! I know what you mean though - mama always said "You can't polish a turd..." But one man's turd is another man's palace :)

Thanks to all who gave helpful comments - yeah, unfortunately we don't live in California anymore and we can't find any good landscapers, and are so busy with kids (hence the basketball hoop in the driveway) and house projects that the landscaping has gone by the wayside - we are aliens here in this rainy/snowy jungle climate so have no idea how to handle all the greenery! We love the look of the glass doors, but it gets very cold here so we ruled that out. For better or worse, we now have 3,200 sq ft of house and 2 acres of yard to maintain - after coming here from our beach shack with nary a tool!

Some of those fancy garage doors can get pretty expensive but I can see wanting one.

Yes we have... but not sure..? Maybe it would be better... and perhaps to get a nice wood access door there on the side too, instead of the white storm door. The house is a 1969 kinda MCM California* style ranch (still with some original ornamental iron railings indoors) *east of the Mississippi...
