I know Brian has a productive tango, but that is one of the varieties that I do not have ;)

Mine flowered this year but dropped its fruit. Hopefully next year I'll get some.

Brian, thanks for the encouragement. My tree is in a 20" pot and has fruit on only one side this year. It is leaning in the pot from the weight. I staked it to give it extra support because I was afraid of it tipping over. Do you do any thinning? Any special fertilizer? I have been using either Jobes Organic Citrus and Fruit Tree fertilizer or Citrus Tone. Today I gave it some Foliage Pro.

Last year I picked the fruit too soon as they were beautifully colored, but tart and very juicy. I believe the fruit should be picked in January-February so waiting will be tough. Earlier this year, I was tempted to sell it as it is a standard and has a large wide canopy. It is not shaped as nicely as yours, but I think I have only had it 3 years.

I have squirrels that come into the yard, but if they touch my citrus, they are history. I will invest in some traps and relocate them. The BB gun is a great deterrent, but I am a lousy shot. lol.

brian, what fertilizer do you use? And how often? And have you ever repotted that tango?

Denise good idea to stake your tree Tango tree's will produce many many fruit . Denise I just cut off a foot and a half off the top and both sides of the tree to fit it in the GH so I do prune only because I have to . I pick the fruit when the fruit has a good give when I squeeze them . Jaydub83 and Denise I fertilize just about every second watering in the summer with MG all purpose a small amount just sprinkled right on top of the potting mix then watered in . Denise lol with your squirrel's!!!!! . Jaydub83 I have repotted that Tango a few times lol it was 18 inches tall when I bought it.

Brian, hello buddy!! What a fantastic looking tree buddy! That is my next tree. That and a shasta like the one you have. I did exactly what you told me to do on a few of my trees and my in ground planted ones with sprinkling the fertilizer and boy do they love that! What a huge didfference. Thank you.

I will see you on my other thread about cutting the roots of mine and cutting back the top growth. That tree is making a huge growth difference now that the roots have room to grow in that same pot. I wish I could let mine grow just as big. Some day when I get a bigger greenhouse. Two of mine would be at least 8 feet tall if I could. But boy, do I love the looks of the ones I keep cutting back. They look like Bonsai style trees with HUGE fat trunks and full canopy of leaves.

Denise, I am a lousy shot too, therefore the reason why my squirells have no fear of me.lol You picked a good tree there. I have heard nothing but great reviews and by the looks of Brian's, what beautiful tree. Good luck with it and please keep us updated with it.

My neighborhood covenants disallow firearm usage so I am not going to try that. I have never shot an animal before and the idea of doing so doesn't sit well with me. I got the BB gun to scare the squirrels enough to avoid coming into my yard. Unfortunately, I have learned that they really have no brains. I have shot at them while they are traversing along the back fence and, if you wait long enough, the squirrels will come back to the same area within 30 minutes. I would like to attract more hawks so they can take care of the squirrel population.

I have hawks, and doubt they do anything against squirrels. I have seen them take smaller birds, and snakes. Maybe they will take baby squirrels?

My parents has a Tango in ground for over 5 years now in Southern california. It gets pretty big and sweet, and is usually ready around March. If I am. Lucky, there may be some left in April. Janua is too early for Tangos.
