hydrangea too hot

I have three hydrangeas against the northwest-facing wall of my home. This past winter, I babied them to protect against the inevitable frost in April. (I even built a box around one and covered it with leaves. It looked ridiculous.) At any rate, we had some very hot weather one week (heat index in the low 100s) which is rare for this area. The hydrangeas actually became scorched. I would like to move them to an area of the backyard that gets dappled sun throughout the day but mostly in the morning. Will they still bloom? I am in central Ohio, zone 6a, clay (ugh) soil. I intend to amend with peat moss and good soil before planting.
