My mom passed away in February of 2017. I was given an orchid plant when she passed away. I have never been able to keep anything alive, but now these plants mean something to me. Anyway, I repotted the orchid last winter. Apparently I did everything wrong. I planted it in a pot that was too big. I used regular potting soil. No moss. The roots were completely submerged in soil. In spite of everything I did wrong, within a month or two, it produced 2 new spikes, then about 10 blooms per spike. They bloomed for about 2-3 months, then the blooms fell off. One of the spikes had one branch with one unbloomed bud, so I cut off the dead spikes to leave the part with the one bloom intact. Immediately a new spike started coming up. It is about a foot tall but not budding yet. The one bloom is still blooming. Now to my question. When I cut off the dead spike I had what appeared to be a living portion of the spike, and I put it into water a little over a month ago, thinking what do I have to lose? Nothing but water. Just in the last couple of days, the two nodules started growing a bit. I really didn't think it would work. The question is, now what? This orchid is like my Mom, she was 94 when she died, she's a survivor in spite of me. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
