Other people have photo upload issues so no worries. If you can get an image to stick, we will be sure to help. Or a link to your image elsewhere and post a link here, that may work too.

I guessed pumpkins (and other winter squash) as it is a common compost heap sprout. Any other food plant seeds like melons, tomatoes, tomatillos, etc. make great guesses too.

Jenny sometimes there will be a glitch and when you try again later it will work. I believe you have posted here before without difficulty?

And certainly try in a comment...but yes, there is something broken somewhere in posting that sometimes bites people...been there.

If I want to add a photo to a post/comment I often first upload the photo(s) to Houzz in an ideabook. Click your name in the top right corner, click on "your ideabooks" and upload your photos there first. When you want to add those photos to a post you click on "Houzz Photo" and choose which one you want. It is a roundabout, annoying way to upload a photo but it works every time and you can include multiple photos in a single comment.

Seedlings from heirloom and open-pollinated tomatoes are completely worth growing as they generally have the same qualities as their parent plants. Ken is referring to seedlings from hybrid plants where the quality is all over the place but they still produce medium to small sized, tasty homegrown tomatoes. Yep, I've let many a volunteer live.

As I recall, only potato leaf tomatoes, like Brandywine, really cross with other varieties. With the popularity of farmer's markets and heirloom tomatoes which are even available in grocery stores here, anything is possible. So give it a try if you want and if you have growing season enough left.

but i was also thinking about peeps who might only have room for a couple plants ... and if you are one of those.. you want to make sure you plant a worthwhile seedling ... rather than rolling the dice on whatever ... if you have limited crop options.. make sure it pays off ....

but if that pleases you.. go for it ... what do i know ..... i hate tomatoes... except on a burger or a sandwich.. otherwise.. i dont waste space on them ... [i mean really.. its got toes in the name.. and i dont want to see your feet ... or your toes... but i apparently digress.. lol]

also .. it crossed my mind.. that i dont think you could pot them and bring them indoors for winter ...

but the knowledge of learning is always approved ... if you throw your veg table scraps in your compost... the smell test ought to often work ...
