What is missing from this bedroom?

Scandanavian/mid-century modern style.

I'm not tied to the rug or throw. And I'm curious about what decor I should put up on the wood piece on the wall.

Could you post a pic of the whole space ,? I am curious why the bed is angled, I can barely even see that there is a piece on the wall.

This is the whole space. The bed isn't angled, it's a panorama photo taken with a smartphone.

Could you please take a regular photo of the room, not using panorama? The whole room looks skewed (notice the rug) and it's hard to get a good feel.

Panorama warps just enough that we have no idea about the real scale of your room or furniture. Standard pix, starting at the door and moving clockwise around the space, taking a shot from each mid-wall and corner to the opposite side, will be more helpful. You can comment on your own thread and upload your photos.

It's very hard to get good photos of this room on a smartphone due to the dimensions and the fact that the door opens right into the room.

I think adding curtains to those windows would make a big difference. Also, I would turn that mirror over the dresser. Large art above the bed.

You might consider moving the chest under the wood piece. Sleek colored glass pieces there would add some life. Then hang the mirror vertically, centered 5' above the floor. Put the hamper in the closet.

    Switched out the blanket.

Decoenthusiaste, why hamper in closet? Space, or doesn't fit the theme?

    Both.

It’s all too rigid—rectangles and wood. Some drapes, a small upholstered chair in the corner, some bed linens (that don’t loom army-starched-and-taught). Some artwork. And yes, hamper in the closet.

Trying out a 5x7" rug I had lying around as opposed to the 7x9" white shag. Better or worse?

I like both blankets. Not sure about a rug. The second one looks too small to be much use. I like your bed! Is it a platform? How are you liking it? I'm considering one for our bedroom.

The white shag looks better. It looks plush and adds some softness to the room.

For the wood shelf- books, a small plant, a candle, a framed photo, a clock...

Get some real bedding, looks like sheets with a throw? Also, what is on the windows right now? Roller shades? Mini blinds? Maybe get some roman shades for those windows. Need some colorful art over the bed. I prefer the shag rug, it's larger and looks more comfy for a bedroom. Agree you should turn the mirror to hang vertically and yes..hamper in closet :)

    I like that bed frame/headboard.

IMO, bedroom rugs should be where you can step on them when you are getting in or out of bed. I prefer the shaggy one; the 2nd seems too small.

Have you thought about placing the bed on a diagonal to the corner. It seems like there is space for that.

Perhaps some art on the walls and curtains/shades would make the room seem less sparse?

@tartanmeup: the bed is this one https://www.amazon.com/Zinus-Tuscan-Metal-Platform-Support/dp/B06WWF1P78

@tenamarie123: there are roller shades on there right now

Duvet and white covers are on the way. It's still been fairly warm here in Pittsburgh, so haven't needed them yet.

Thanks for that link, Liam. Since the description answered my
question about mattress movement ("non-slip tape on the wooden slats prevents your mattress from moving"), I'll add this bed to my list of contenders.

I agree with the others about adding art to the walls and a plant. Seems there's always some greenery in Scandi rooms.

    Added some decor:

How does the mirror look over the bed? I like white shag but new rug size better
I’d keep it clean and simple

mommas texture nice. as of now, I vote for initial blanket with whimsical dash-dash black Mark's. could contrast with soft neutral-ish Scandinavian- folk art, not heavy looking. Heavy- is mirror frame thick or carved - to me a "no"- is it too large for room, even vertically -- even if a creamy chalk or other paint?
Sorry but I don’t like the side lamps -it reminds me of the dentist!!! Get some that are a bit more substantial, and soft. You need way more bedding - at least 7 pillows total and 4 layers of bedding. I do like the fluffy rug - nice for bare feet.

The lamps are stylish and perfect for your minimalist look. Just move the wall piece over the dresser and the mirror over the bed and you are done. You could add another rug for your feet when you get out of bed. More than one rug is okay. Your room is beautiful.

I don't understand the suggestion of putting the mirror over the bed. It's not practical. You can't stand in front of it and brush your hair. Leave it over the dresser.
