no experience with Zone 11-12, CA poppies grow in Winter for Zone 9-10, I think temps over 80 F will push them to go dormant regardless of water. They are best sown in place as they form a tap root. No stratification needed. They are notorious self sowers here.

Not really for cutting. Poppies don't do well in water, they need to have the cut ends sealed by flame.

Though you can get colors other than Orange, the seedlings tend to revert to Orange.

agree with the above... but note that even on the plant.. the flowers do not last long.. quickly fading in color ... and then falling apart ... i wouldnt even consider it worth my time to cut them and walk them in my house ...

i would just move the lawn chair next to them one evening.. and just relish them where they are.. and leave them be ...

They come up like weeds. No need to do anything to the seeds. just plant them, water it and in 3 days they'll be up. Yes they self seed. For the dry season only.

We planted the "jelly beans" variety in an area they could spread, and spread they did...with no care. They look horrid after blooming, but years later we still are pulling poppies after replanting the area. We're in Central CA.

They are wild flowers and need relatively little care. Driving up and down the California coast you see them all along the side of the roads and highways. Seeing where they have taken over an entire field with their nodding heads of orange flowers moving with the wind is a beautiful site, indeed.

I had some years ago planted next to Blue Lobelia. The contrast between that golden orange of the poppies and the nearly purple-blue hue of the Lobelia was very striking.
