If this is what you decide to do, given the way the door opens I would put the door on the opposite closet. It would give more space on the entrance side.

You know the storage you need and what your family needs are for closet space so if this is what works for your family then do it. I'd just keep in mind that going to hooks is not going to give you as much hanging space as a rod and that if you are a bit of a neat freak that you won't be able to close the doors when you have company over as those nice everything in place photos with the hooks and cubby holes are usually not real life. Just do a lot of drawings to size and make sure everything has a place.
