Help hanging small cabinets on plaster walls

I am hanging some refinished retro style cabinets on plaster walls, some are only 9-12 inches wide. All have a flat back (unable to create a hanging rail as far as I know, but perhaps you know better!) What is the best way to secure these for cabinets for the weight of dishes if only 1 or no studs are available? So far my only search finds are to create a single large plywood tracing of the entire area behind the cabinets and secure it to studs then the cabinets to it, or tear out the walls and sister in studs as needed...I really don't wanna cut into the plaster as I don't think I can "contain" the area so that surrounding plaster is not damaged...plus I just had the walls skim coated and they look great! Any experience with this would be super helpful!!!!! similiar style cabinets as these that will be also refinished, but small to flank the stove etc.
