I need some opinions please!

I’m in the process of a new build and I’m finally at the floor choosing phase. I picked out what was visually pleasing, but now I’m panicked that my choice is too dark and it’s going to be a pain to upkeep. (Note - family of 7 slobs and two hairball dogs).
Does anyone have something similar to this that they can share their opinion of? (Left pic is vinyl that will be in the kids domain on the second floor) Right is of the hardwood. It has a satin finish, so it reflects light and looks a few degrees lighter when layer flat.
Thanks for any insight.

Both really pretty. The darker option will show more dirt/dog hair than a lighter option. So it just depends how crazy that will drive you and how often you want to sweep/vacuum.

I would suggest picking a medium wood tone with some visible graining for both choices. That will be far easier to live with. Dark floors are a real pain to live with even for those who live to Swiffer. They show everything. That floor will even show bare feet prints, as in your dog’s paws.

I really like your choices. Go with what you like. Get a Neato or Rhomba! The dark wood has some light pieces and texture in it so it won’t show dirt and hair quite as much as a solid dark wood.

What will the stairs be that bridge the gap between both products?

The hard would will be throughout the first floor (kitchen, living, master, dining) and run up the stairs. The vinyl will then start on the second floor (all kids area).

Skip that dark and depressing wood. And the gray plastic. And use the same wood material throughout the entire home. Including the stairs. Not gray, and not dark. Those ships have long since sailed.

No matter what material you choose I would go with a medium tone as your left choice. Based on your comments I think that will suit you best; after all you want to renovate to make your life easier not be a slave to the home I would think.

IMO all flooring should be the same.

I used different flooring on both floors and it flows just fine as long as your stairs are cohesive with both. I can’t see any of the second floor flooring from my first floor though.
