Bedroom Design Dilemma Building a Home

Crown Molding ideas?

We have crown molding downstairs in our new home with 9 ft. Ceilings. Now we have to choose crown molding for the 8 ft ceilings upstairs. I just want to do it in the bedrooms. Kids bedrooms and a large master bedroom. Can you provide any advice of pictures of crown that would work for that size ceiling? Nothing crazy just like the look of it so simple is fine.

Patricia has a good point, there are usually multiple sizes of the same crown profile. As an example, the crown in my house is sold in three sizes WM 45, WM47, and WM49.

Use the top search and enter "crown moulding" you'll see lots of ideas, you can narrow your search by room type. We can probably identify the moulding profiles you like or this can be done by your local lumber yard.

An option once you've narrowed your choices is to buy a few 8' lengths, put them up temporarily and live with them for a few days.

If you posted pictures of your existing downstairs moulding, that would help.

I would recommend MDF for crown. Around 1/2 of wood crown cost(for mat and the trim guys love it because it's so light.....might give you a better price on labor...it's faster) and won't get dented as crown. LOTS to chose from.

It really should be done everywhere, not just the bedrooms.

Choose a smaller version of what is downstairs.

Based on classical orders, the vertical projection of a crown moulding for a room with an 8 ft ceiling height would be 2 1/2" +/-
