Fragrant Orchid

I'm trying very hard to limit my plant purchases. However, I only have a few miniature orchids. I want to purchase one orchid that has phenomenal fragrance. Orchids are one plant group I've not delved into in an obsessive way as I have with most everything else. Therefore, my knowledge with orchids is very limited. I do have a greenhouse however, it is not kept warm enough during the winter months to house a collection of orchids thus I am only going to get one..possibly two at the most and need to be picky. I would like fragrance to be my number one level of importance when making the selection, very free flowering my second and lastly a very unique, beautiful look to the flower.

So, I need your expertise please. What orchid would you recommend?

Hello Ladylotus, first off, please post in the Blooming for October with us. Please. You can learn a lot over on that thread. We might even enable you.lol

You should give a Micehlia Alba a try if you have a greenhouse setting and love strong sweet fragrance.

Well, for me it has come down to about three that would smell up an entire area!! Easy to grow too.

There are others too, but these will smell up an entire room and you can smell them from afar!!

Hope this helps

Hey there Mike. THANK you so much for responding. I love the first two orchids that you provided links to. I will look for places to purchase. I see you linked one to Logees. I have not bought from them in awhile.

Oh trust me. I peek at this area OFTEN. I just have too many plants right now and need to just work on keeping them healthy. I only keep my greenhouse heated to the upper 30's or lower 40's so I have to be careful what I attempt to grow.

(Hugs)...thank you for giving me links to these gorgeous orchids.

Tangula, hello! Enjoying the greenhouse yet? I'll bet. You must have something that smells good flowering about now. I'm glad you like those. You will not be disappointed especially with the ease of growing them. There is a dendrobium you'd like too, but let's wait on that.lol

The Dendrobiums actually love the cold and dry conditions. In fact, many need that in order to bloom. You should look up cold loving orchids.

I do have quite a few things blooming in there. I have been so busy trying to get a few things in my gardens cleaned up before we get anymore snow. Oi oi oi I love snow but this year things are creeping up way to quickly. I bought a puppy this spring so I have been so busy training him that I neglected a lot of my gardens. I will try to get out to the greenhouse this week and get some photos.

How are things growing in your greenhouse?
