Full size bedframe - bedroom design

Recently moved into a home and my bedroom has light blue and grey walls. I actually have come to like them, but am in need of a bedframe for my full sized mattress. I have a black hiboy in the corner that works as a dresser and tv stand, an old Hitchcock rocking chair in another, 2 black and white framed photos and 2 lamp of sentimental value. The floors are dark brown hardwood, with hints of red.

Although a bit eclectic I like the pieces I have except for the nightstand. They all just seem like me. :-) If anyone with a good eye has suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Open to all ideas!

A bit about me - single mom with kiddo, full time career...when I get to my room at the end of the day, I'm pretty much dead!

Something about an upholstered headboard reads as comforting to me. I imagine it would be very nice at the end of a long day. The one below has wings, which kind of gives it a cocooning feel.

You could think about something similar for your room. I can see one in the flax color of your curtain panels. From what I understand, it's relatively easy to DIY, if you have the time to spare. Could be a fun project.

For a nightstand consider a round one. They tend to work well in tight spaces. I'd like to suggest you raise your curtain rod almost to the ceiling. Doing so will add "height" to your ceilings. Then you'll want to have your curtain stack just touching the outside of the window frame.

The colors in your room are very serene. I'd choose bedding that continues that feeling. Hope this helps!

Round nightstands waste spaces in corners; stick to the tried and true. Wall mount swing-arm lights, if possible (one on each side of the headboard) to free up tight space on the nightstand.

Wall-mount the TV on a swing arm to free up space on the top of the hi-boy (and raise it much higher for viewing comfort (monoprice.com has great ones that are cheap),

I agree an upholstered bed would be great for you. Mirrored nightstands would complement the bed nicely.

Nice big silver shaggy rug pulled half way up under bed will look and feel lovely and lighten room, silver or white sheers hung from just under ceiling, padded headboard would look nice other wise just get some big pillows to go along back

Thank you all - I always tend to go greys ot tans and forget that they indeed can be mixed and matched. Now to find an upholstered flax colored headboard!

West elm has a bunch of upholstered headboards - we bought one last year and are very happy with it... A bonus - they have a sale going on right now.

Tufting tends to read as more "fancy" in my opinion. The flat linen look is a little more understated and simple. Which vibe do you want to fall into at the end of the day?

Well I purchased this headboard from Wayfair over the weekend. Great reviews and fantastic price. a bit discouraged at the moment as it's far more tan/oatmeal than I expected (even more so than other users photos). Do I get new curtain or?! Help!

The color is off - it's that color beige with pink undertones and it's not right for this room. Hmmm . . . which will be more of a hassle for you - returning the headboard or redecorating the entire room to accommodate the headboard? I'd return it.

The color isnt as pinkish in the second picture. I think I'll take a second look at it in natural light. if it's not better I may pull the bedding off and the curtains down to get a feel of it without those influencing it. I hate to return it as it is a hassle and I do like it.

Beth, I completely understand.

I think the shape is perfect and love the nail head trim detail. If it doesn't unsettle you in real life, leave well enough alone. Beige is funny, so are computer monitors and photographs. I recently reupholstered an arm chair in what I insist is a champagne color. In its real life setting, it reads exactly as that. But. When I took a photo of it, the pink undertones were evident. Since my home isn't a photo op and it reads the way I want it to in real life, it doesn't bother me one bit.

So, I spoke too soon in saying that I would return the headboard. We live in the real world, not in photographs.

Anywho, for curtains you could look at some of the palest of blues for your window coverings. Blue tends to play nicely with beige. It would pick up on your bedspread and kind of just be a non-element, receding into the background giving more breathing space at the end of the day.

Nice choice for headboard! Sophisticated and elegantly serene. Definitely get new, longer drapes so you can hang the rod closer to the ceiling. Blackout drapes if you require dark room for sleeping.

I'm not attached to much in the room save the few items I originally posted, so definitely am going to work through the slight color issue.

Thanks for the kudos on the headboard all ... I usually dont have an eye for these things but this one just felt right!

Now to figure out the rest!

Pulled down the curtains and that helped, but I'm thinking a change in wall color may be necessary. I do like the headboard however I'm struggling to work with it. I have a farmhouse feel in the house but it's more greys and teals and whites.

I'm not in love with this bedroom color but I'm trying to figure out what to do. The hallway leading to the bedroom is light grey, and the bedroom shares one grey wall, and these 3 awful blue walls. I think I need to be cautious though as the blue wall is visible when you look up the stairs, so painting it cream or the like when there isn't any cream elsewhere in the house seems like it wouldn't work.

Suggestions?

Beth, you can work with your headboard. The photo below shows a headboard similar in colour to yours. The wall colour is a lighter shade than headboard which I think would work well for you with a farmhouse look, and I suggest all 4 walls same colour. In your last photo is that new bedding? It would look good folded at-end of bed with a white duvet or comforter on bed. Also notice in the photo the texture added with the fur pillows, and there is a subtle stripe in the drapes. These things could incorporated in your room as well to add a bit of colour and texture.

The bedding is just a blanket and I ripped everything else off (plethora of pillows) so I could get a better look at the real color.

Not sure I want to go a lighter shade of tan, as the rest of the house is on the grey side of things. Hmm.

For wall colour I was thinking a light warm neutral, think off white. In these samples if first is colour of headboard, second would be wall colour. There are other options to bring grey into room, as seen in photo below, so it flows with rest of house.
Do you think this could be a good direction for you?

Yeh - that's a bit closer and definitely an option. I was just worried about the off white with the white and grey bring so clean in the main living area. Here are a few inspirations I stumbled over this afternoon.

The second does well at pulling in the grey, and the others have a wall color that would complement the grey in the hallway. Especially love the last 2 as I have some sentimental pieces I want to tie into the room.

Those deep rich colors in the above photos sure look cozy to me. They make the headboard cozy looking too. There are some lovely deep rich grays.

Love the rich colours too. Beth, you did mention your floors are dark and some black furniture that’s staying also, so take that into consideration too. If you go darker on walls you should probably bring in some lighter bedding etc. If these are rooms you what you would like to emulate, I suggest you find the bed linens first, then use them to inspire a wall colour. A good example of this is the close up photo you attached above. See how the blue in the fabric coordinates so well with the wall colour.

Great point Marlene! I think I have my direction and a solution. Wanted new bedding anyway and I cant actually paint the dark piece of furniture in the room.

Whew - I'm finally feeling better about this.

Now do I paint all 4 walls that color or only an accent?

i think you could go either way. Some opinions are feature walls are not popular anymore, but I think in a bedroom behind a bed they can look nice, and painting all 4 walls can really be dramatic. I would find bedding first as that may influence decision. Question, is the wall behind bed a solid wall or are there doors? Reason I’m asking is feature walls should be on a solid wall. Can we see pictures of all 4 walls too?

The only solid wall is the one the bed is on. 2 walls have windows and the other has the closet and door.
